Are You a Good Mom or Bad Mom: Take This Quiz to Find Out

With all the conflicting parenting advice out there, it’s difficult to know whether you’re a good mom or a bad mom. Take this handy quiz to find out once and for all.

Keep track of your answers on a post-it and total your score at the end. Won’t it be a relief to know whether or not you’re a bad mom?

1. How many hours per week does your child spend in daycare?

  • A. None. I’m a stay-at-home mom.
  • B. 40 or more. I work full-time.
  • C. About 20. I work half-time.

2. Where does your baby sleep

  • A. In a crib.
  • B. In my bed.
  • C. In a co-sleeper.

3. Do you allow your child to watch television?

  • A. Yes.
  • B. No.

4. Has your child been vaccinated?

  • A. Yes.
  • B. No.

5. How many scheduled activities (storytimes, lessons, classes or playgroups) does your child attend each week?

  • A. None
  • B. One or more.

ANSWERS:

1. Day Care.

  • A: Stay at home mom. You are a bad mom. Your child will be poorly socialized, will lack verbal skills, and will become horribly ill during kindergarten because he or she has never been exposed to germs.
  • B: Full-time working mom. You are a bad mom. Your child will have an attachment disorder. You are missing the best years of his or her life.
  • C: Part-time working mom. You are the worst mom. Your child will suffer attachment issues, be poorly socialized, lack verbal skills and will be sick as a dog forever.

2. Sleeping arrangements.

  • A: Baby sleeps in a crib. You are a bad mom. How could you put your child in a cage to sleep? What’s wrong with you?
  • B: Baby sleeps in your bed. You are a bad mom. How could you risk rolling onto your child and killing her? What’s wrong with you?
  • C: Baby sleeps in a co-sleeper. You are a bad mom. How could you waste so much money on that ridiculous co-sleeper? Is it because you read about it in Dr. Sears? You won’t be able to afford to send your child to college.

3. Television

  • Yes. You are a bad mom. Your child will be violent, mouthy, and unpleasant. He or she will whine for every candy and toy they see the next time you go to the store.
  • No. You are a bad mom. Your child will lack reading skills and will have nothing to talk with other children about. You are raising a freak.

4. Vaccinations.

  • A: Yes. You are a bad mom. How could you do that to a helpless baby who cannot consent to being experimented on by the public health system?
  • B: No. You are a bad mom. How could you do that to a helpless baby whose immune system can’t fight off all those germs?

5. Activities.

  • A: None. You are a bad mom. Your child will fall behind his or her peers and never catch up if you don’t head over to the children’s theatre production of “Apocalypse Now” this weekend.
  • B: One or more. You are a bad mom. Your child is overscheduled and will suffer a breakdown due to the stress you’re putting on him or her. You’re probably doing Suzuki, aren’t you.

Brought to you by the folks at Parenting, Mothering, Time, Newsweek, The Today Show, Babycenter.com, Wonder Time, What to Expect When You’re Expecting, Your Pregnancy Week by Week, your pediatrician, your obstetrition, your mother, your mother-in-law, and that awful bitch in the elevator who knows better than you how you should be raising your kids.

    Thank you for this, Nicole!

Let’s not forget that the stay-at-home moms will all live out their old age in destitution because they have no retirement savings, and the working moms will die alone and have their faces eaten off by their cats because their children are paying them back for the years of neglect. We’re all screwed!

  5. 5 Annie May 13, 2007 at 10:43 am

    lol! How true :-)

I am worse still for being down on the computer while my older 2 are blissfully getting along by creating some crazy world where rescue helicopters, ponies, unicorns, and farmers all get together to save the world. Let’s burn the magazines and just be the best mamas we can.

Thanks for the humor – this job is tough enough without the critics.

  13. 15 Kari Contrasta July 16, 2007 at 5:45 am

THis is full of crap! I am a half-time mom who’s child has about 300 friends, is at the park, play dates and Interactivity class.

If you believed that you are a bad mom just because you work, put you child in groups or let the watch TV then you need some help

  14. 16 amberjee July 17, 2007 at 7:15 am

    Brilliant. Thanks for the laugh.

I’m going through a custody battle right now. The father is trying to dig up anything he can to prove im a bad mother. Unfortunatley, the only thing he will find is that yes, i let my kids watch tv, yes i let them play at germ filled parks, yes i let them swim in lakes that ducks poop in, yes i spoil my kids with hugs, kisses and love, yes they get new bikes every year, and yes, they have even been in the emergency room for stepping on a clam shell and slicing a foot, or had a fever over 100 degrees. Looks like this quiz about sums it up….your damned if you do and your damned if you don’t.

  17. 20 halfpintpixie August 14, 2007 at 11:49 pm

I can only really quote oscar wilde (i think)
“opinions are like arseholes, eveyone has one but few require closer inspection”
People love to judge cos it makes them feel more secure to push the slightly different away.

  20. 23 Lucy Smith March 8, 2008 at 11:01 pm

I have 11 children: 9 girls and two boys: in order of age: Ruthie, Katy, Alex, Laura, Sally, Cecilia (Cece for short), Magdalena, Max, Kelly, Brenda and Veronica. They are all under 16 years old and I am 33 years old and a full time working mother, as I have to be in order to help my husband support our family, especially since we believe in private schooling and all of our children go to the following schools: Christian Worship Daycare, Loyola School for Boys and Archer School for girls. Tuition for all of these schools togeether yearly is $210,000. Also, all of our children take sports and piano lessons after school. Cece is a major ice skater and her private lessons cost us $180.00 a day! Ruthie, Katy and Sally are all competitor swimmers statewide and so their lessons and trips cost us $300.00 each monthly! Laura and Magdalena take private piano lessons every day as they are training to be proffesional pianists and their lessons cost $60.00 a day! Kelly is a gymnast with a private daily lesson costing $150.00 a day and Brenda is a soccer player and her lessons and competitions cost us $340.00 monthly. Max and Alex aer both competitive runners whose competitions cost us miles of driving, as for all of our very ambitious and dedicated children, and practices $200.00 monthly. Plus all of that, I have Veronica, a screaming two year old in my hands! Thank god she’s not involved in anyhting yet! And as we live in Beverly Hills, the mortgage on our house is absolutely ridiculous! And our pricey Mercedesjust broke down, so now we have to invest in another car! All of that, and to learn only a week ago that I am pregnant! As we are practicing Christians, we do not believe in abortion whatsoever, as you can tell. So PLEASE do not ever tell me that I am a bad mother! While the above al has some truth to it,I will tell you as a mother that it is VERY VERY VERY hard to support ALL of your children’s ambitious dreams, send them to good schools and take perfectly good care of them! I am trying the best I can, but it is impossibly hard! OH MY GOD! Well, just needed to get a lttle bit of stress out of my life right now, thank you! And tommorow is Ruthie’s skating competition in New York city and everybody insists on first class….another thing to afford….I don’t want to complain and sound selfish and say that we can’t perfectly well afford it, but it all means I have to work more……wish me luck!

    Although the quiz was hilarious!

  22. 25 lilmoma March 15, 2008 at 5:53 am

this are you a good mother quiz is a joke parents want to find out if they are a good parent and every answer says that your a bad mother i would give people the facts that they need if they are a bad mother so they could get with the program not telling them everything they do is wrong, then they might feel helpless like they know what they’re doing wrong but what do i do right or how this quiz tells people that they’re doing wrong no matter what they do and i think that is wrong. so my statment is that you are a bad are you a good mother quiz writer!

  23. 26 Elrena March 30, 2008 at 11:30 am

I’m laughing so hard I’m crying.

Just linked to your blog from mine….

  24. 27 kari contrasta April 12, 2008 at 4:52 pm

Hi, I wrote a response last year sometime about my child being in groups and how crappy this quiz was.
Ok, so I have to apologize. I judged it too quickly. I also have to apologize, I was just defending my mother. I mean she would have gone off the deep end if she read that and I didn’t want her reading it or not seeing she was defended if she was.
I still think this is a crapshoot but I shouldn’t have judged so quickly. If anyone says this is correct they are insane, mothers are not going to believe this and its a stupid thing, even if it’s a joke, because it’s telling everyone that you are a bad parent no matter what. So think about that, SubArctic Mama you can send me an email, but please do not post my email address, thank you
    Kari

    Thank you Sophie!
You must know how hard it is to be a mother.
laundry, dinner, driving and whatnot. But in the end, all very rewarding!
I sure will email as soon as I can!
Wish me luck on Kelly’s gymnastic meet in Wyoming,
    thanks!

  27. 30 Sophie mann April 22, 2008 at 3:03 pm

OMG I know. It is so hard! I mean my daughter (oldest one) is 12 and she is a gymnast, my second oldest (8) is in ballet, my third daughter (5) is doing drama, my twins (2) are starting this tiny toes hip hop class, and my 1 year old daughter is in Mommy and Me Swim class. I live in California and my house is not cheap either. My daughter are: Jennifer, Jessica, Jenna, Roxie, Winnie, Lucy, and Lambis. Like you we are religious and don’t believe in birth control (we are Jewish) and it is a wonder that I haven’t killed my husband yet. I mean we wear normal clothing, but we have the rules of no birth control and well, since you are Christian and don’t believe in abortion (I don’t normally either), then you know where that goes. But, Alls Well That Ends Well.

  28. 31 Sophie mann April 22, 2008 at 3:32 pm

sorry about that i forgot one of my daughters (whoops) jessica is the second oldest and does hip hop and jenna does ballet (she is eight and jess is 10).

  29. 32 Sophie mann April 22, 2008 at 4:09 pm

ok sorry again! i am getting totally confused! i am so sorry, i am terrible. i just confused my daughters again! lets get this straight: Jennifer, gymnast, (14), Jessica, hip hop, (12), and the rest was right.

It’s just i wrote the wrong ages for the older ones! I mean you understand! I can’t keep em straight.

  30. 33 Sophie mann April 22, 2008 at 4:09 pm

i feel really stupid about that

  31. 34 Lucy Smith April 28, 2008 at 5:16 pm

Oh, don’t worry. All daughters, the girls are quite a handful! I have 9 girls and 2 boys, mostly girls too! And I am pregnant with a girl currently. Ruthie is sick now and I’m trying to figure out the best cure for the flu. I already made chicken soup! I did the laundry, cleaned the house, drove the kids to school and practice, my husband made dinnner, took Max to the doctor and we are all about set to eat! Aaaaah, what a day!
    Lucy Smith

  32. 35 Lucy Smith April 28, 2008 at 5:18 pm

Oh and how cool! One of your daughters has the same name as me! And I was thinking of naming my daughter, the one I am currently pregnant with, Roxanna This is so funny!

  33. 36 Lucy Smith April 28, 2008 at 9:26 pm

Oh one of your daughters is a gymnast too? So is Kelly. Since we both live in California, I live in Beverly Hills, maybe they have competed together! Kelly just recently came back from her national girls state meet in Wyoming! She came in second place and with a grand prize total of 650 dollars! It was quite an achievement. Kelly recently got moved up to advanced. I soncerely hope that she is in Proffesional group A before she is sixteen, that way she can move up to Proffesional gruop B and then later on move up to Expert by the time she is twenty years old. It is one of her greatest dreams to become a gymnast! Is your daughter a competitive gymnast too?

So your a bad mom no matter what you do?

  39. 42 Sophie Mann December 22, 2008 at 9:02 am

Lucy, Please email me at sophs216@gmail.com
I need to speak with you. I feel awful! Please, don’t be angry. But I am not a mother. I am only 10 years old! Please forgive me! Your story was so uplifting I wanted to pretend I was just like you! I am so sorry. Please forgive me!

  40. 43 Sophie Mann December 22, 2008 at 9:10 am

The only thing I want is for you to forgive me. Please! I am so so so so so SO incredibly sorry for lying. I don’t know wat came over me. I just wanted to be like you soo much, that I lied and I realized it was wrong after I posted the first comment, but I was so in over my head once I posted it, that I just dug deeper and deeper and I know it was wrong and I should NEVER have done it. I have been praying that you forgive me and I hope that you do. I need you to, for the new year. I am so incredibly sorry, the only thing I want is for you to forgive me. Please please please forgive, I never meant to hurt any body. I am only 10 I didn’t know what I was doing, please please please forgive me. !!!!

  41. 44 Sophie Mann December 22, 2008 at 9:37 am

I know i have already said this, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FORGIVE ME!!!!!! I made a mistake! I am just a kid! PLEASE!

  42. 45 Toby Levenson December 22, 2008 at 5:27 pm

Hi, I am Sophie’s mother. Previously, she lied about this and told me immediately after posting it how in over her head she was with the lie. I told her to apologize as soon as she got the chance. It would be most appreciated if she forgiven. I am also sorry that I did not know of this before she did it because normally she comes to me before posting a comment or anything on a website that she is new to and she should have known better. I am sorry for the confusion and I would be most appreciative if you forgave her, she is only a young girl of 12 (her keyboard is messed up so for some reason wen she types 2 it inputs 0).
    Thank you so much,
    Toby

  43. 46 abc December 30, 2008 at 7:38 am

    Dear Sophie,

I bet Lucy was lying just like you I mean come on LUCY SMITH that is just about the plainest name I have ever heard of anyone can make it up!

  44. 47 Sophie Mann January 1, 2009 at 1:29 pm

Do you think? I don’t like to think people lie, that is why I felt so bad!! HAHA, but yeah. I just felt bad. But, yeah I don’t feel bad now since I apologized and if she hasn’t seen at least people know I’m sorry. Yeah the email I posted, my mom deleted that address since she didn’t want strangers emailing me. And my email (the one that got deleted) was actually sophs215@gmail.com not 216! I don’t know who 216 is so, if Lucy does want to email that person, please don’t! I don’t some other people getting an email from someone that they don’t know because that is always really scary! So, please DO NOT email 216 or 215 (215 got deleted and 216 is not someone I know or Lucy knows so that would be pretty bad if she emailed the wrong person). I changed my email anyhow, so I think I’m OK!

  45. 48 Sophie Mann January 1, 2009 at 1:31 pm

Remember: sophs216@gmail.com is NOT Sophie Mann. DO NOT EVER send emails to that address. It DOES NOT work. I sent an email to it to see if it would even work and IT DID NOT!!!

  46. 49 Toby Levenson January 1, 2009 at 1:33 pm

    Hi,
I am Toby Levenson. Sophie’s mom, again. I wanted to say something even though Sophie already said it. Her email address (which she typed wrong above) was deleted because of a spam problem. sophs216@gmail.com was not ever at any point her email address and as far as we know is not a working email address. Please do not send emails to sophs216@gmail.com OR sophs215@gmail.com
    Thank you!

  47. 50 Carly Montenapolis January 1, 2009 at 1:35 pm
