Congratulations are in order for our governor, Sarah Palin, subarctic boss-mama. She announced yesterday that she is expecting her fifth child in May.
I have to admit I’m feeling a little inadequate. I have only two children and a part-time job, and I can’t even find time to put the laundry away, let alone stand up to Big Oil or pose for Vogue. If she can be governor and have her fifth baby, I should be able to sit down and match those socks.
It makes me rethink the old saying “Alaska, where men are men and women win the Iditarod.”
I’ve been meaning to write a feminist analysis of the “America’s Hottest Governor” press that she garners, but I haven’t gotten around to it. It will be interesting to see how her pregnancy is going to be covered. Maybe after I finally get the “laundry chair” cleared off, I’ll get around to writing about it.
I think I have a couple of nursing shirts I could send her.
