About the blog:
I’m a subarctic mama on the last frontier. Outnumbered by two little girls, I spend my days reading “Who’s Making That Smell?” and “Richard Scarry’s Best Counting Book Ever.” My hobbies include reminding a toddler to say “please” and “thank you,” wiping off the high chair tray, and going to Fred Meyer. I’m on the lookout for things to do with kids in interior Alaska. This blog is a resource for all the other subarctic mamas and daddies out there. I’ll have reviews of places and events written for folks who have kids in tow, information about enjoying Alaska with little ones, commentary, and helpful links. Please suggest any new spots to review or topics to write about, and I’ll happily try them. May all the cool places install changing tables, may all toddlers happily wear snowsuits, and may we all get outside every day for at least a little while.
About my writing:
My essays and reviews have appeared in Anchorage Daily News.
My commentaries and personal essays have been aired on AK, KUAC, and Alaska News Nightly.
My poetry has appeared in various literary magazines, including Ice Floe, The Women’s Review of Books, Beloit Poetry Journal, Prairie Schooner, Steamticket, Two Girls Review, and Hurricane Alice.
I’d like to thank the Rasmuson Foundation for their very generous support of my poetry habit. I hope someday soon to be able to thank them more formally on the acknowledgments page in a collection of poems. If you’re an Alaskan artist take some time to learn about their Individual Artist Awards.
I work as a columns editor for Literary Mama, a magazine for the maternally inclined. If you’re so inclined, check it out.
